10/10 for this product. No doubts about buying Alesis again. It has an excellent battary life,great way of holding an Ipod in place safely,the sound quality and loudness is impressive,the housing is strong,controls are easily accessible and I expect them to have a long life,easily plays music from ipod,laptop,cd player,or any electrical goods with phono cable plugs(you know the ones..the red and white sound cables...these cost me 4.50euro but i use them to connect my laptop with great effect),and a whole host of musical instruments. The carry handles are impressive and strong and the same goes for the pull up handle for rolling the unit around behind you on its wheels which are also of good build. The unit is suprisingly heavy but this just adds to the effort of providing reassurences that you have a good product on your hands. I recommend.

The sound quality is great. Easy to use. Microphone surprisingly good. Easier to manoevre than I expected too. Heavy to lift out of a vehicle but very easy to move on wheels once on the ground.

I needed a portable BASS amp - it HAD to be battery powered as I play a few folk sessions in pubs, play along with our local Morris Men (yes, I know...;(...) The choice is limited, I took a the plunge and got this (very cheap from BEM, a mistake I think at £119?) Well, it JUST about copes with an electro-acoustic bass, but, it really does work. I can be heard in pubs, and, importantly, outside as well, competing with melodeans, whistles and all manner of fiddly things. Yep, it aint got the clout of my 4X10/1X15 Ashdown rig, but it's a tad easier to cart around! For guitar it would be perfect - plenty of volume, and the ipod dock works a treat. It's surprisingly well built - very solid. BUT, the battery lasts FOREVER! It just goes on and on - I am playing bass through this, so it's having to struggle at virtualy full capacity, but I have had hours of use between charges, perfect! Frankly, there appears to be b*gger all choice out there for portable bass amps - OK, the Roland thingy, but 2.5 watts stereo??? and no rechargeable battery (runs off 6Xaa's!) c'mon! and that esoteric suitcase amp that costs £500, and the battery only lasts 1 hour (mind you, it does kick out 100 watts hmmm...) Ultimately, I rekoned that if the Alesis didn't work, at the price I paid, I'd just flog it on eBay, but, no way now - it's the nuts! AND, it'll put a smile on your face - just plug in your ipod, extend the carry handle, and tow the thing behind you on your way to the boozer on a Sunday morning - the ultimate boom box! Again, for bass, just about copes but won't move mountains, everything else, fine. Blimey, you even get a half decent mike' and an XLR lead into the bargain!

After looking around for quite some time I stumbled across this little gem.
This is a very good piece of kit and much sleeker than your average AV receiver and for half the price.
The speakers are smart and pack a sufficient punch, for gaming and movies it truly delivers and produces a very good listening experience and for music, well it just blew me away.

Brought this for my other half as he is a big gamer but the new tv we brought the sound was not up to much he is so happy now as this connects too all our gadgets ps3,xbox,even the build in freeview for the tv and it was so easy to set up he didnt ever get stressed setting it up

I admit to spending ages deliberating over this purchase.... Do I really need surround sound? Won't all those speakers look a bit chavvy? Where will they go? How will I hide the wiring? However, after the item being in my Basket for the best part of a week, I clicked 'Confirm Order'. And actually, I'm glad I did!! I'm not very technical when it comes to the world of audio-visual, so this review is written to hopefully address the concerns that your average joe public might have about buying this product.

What makes this package different to the others I saw is the dimensions of the receiver. With it's slim design you would think it was a DVD player. Most amps are big bulky boxes, but this is brilliantly compact and unobtrusive. It does not have vent holes at the top, so you CAN stack your DVD player or Blu-Ray on top of it. It's easy to wire-up, with all the speaker wiring being colour-coded at both ends. The cable itself is transparent, so no worries about whether white or black are easier to hide in your room. Of course, it's just standard speaker cable with no connectors at either end, so if you want to buy different cable, or use whatever's already in your room, you can. The speaker cable shipped with the unit was plenty long enough to position the rear speakers at the back of a good-sized living room following the route of the skirting boards. The speakers are a glossy black plastic and do actually look quite smart. You CAN detach the stands from the bottom of the front and rear left/right speakers and they can be hung on the wall or attached to speaker stands (the slots and bolt holes are all there).

As for connecting to your other equipment, I'll use my set-up as an example because I imagine people worry about that kind of thing. I have a Blu-Ray player (HDMI), XBox games console (HDMI) and a digital TV recorder that's not HD so has a SCART connection. My TV supports ARC - which basically means that if I connect all my HDMI boxes (Blu-Ray, Xbox) directly to the LG Receiver using one HDMI cable each, and I can connect the LG Receiver to my TV using just one HDMI cable. My TV was quite cheap, so I wouldn't think ARC is unusual. The LG Receiver passes the picture and sound from the Blu-Ray/Xbox to the TV (as well as to the surround speakers), and the TV is able to pass it's sound back to the LG Receiver using the same cable. All this means that I can have surround sound no matter whether I am watching TV, playing games or watching a Blu-Ray. I chose to connect my SCART digital recorder directly to my TV, because the TV will pass sound from the digital recorder back to the Receiver. Fallen asleep yet? If you don't have ARC on your TV, or you have SCARTs, optical sound, coax or whatever else, there are enough odd-shaped holes at the back of the unit to support it.

But as for 1100W of surround sound, believe me, you'll hardly ever (if ever) crank it up to full volume. You'll be disturbing your neighbours even if you live on a remote farm in the Outer Hebrides.

The downside of another gizmo is of course yet another remote control. But the LG Remote Control has lots of buttons and a table of codes which means you can control your TV, DVD/Blu-Ray using the same remote control, if you so wish.

So, this product has taken me along the journey from being a surround-sceptic, then surround-curious to the new world of surround-appreciation. All in all, I like my surround sound and I'm glad I chose this product!

I bought this system to replace an older LG DVD 5.1 system. The reasons? Well my older system only had Dolby digital decoders and not Tru HD and Digital Plus and certainly not Divx HD or MKV file decoders.

The Good Stuff

Looks - it certianly looks the part with the slimline tallboy speakers at the front (shame the rear speakers are only small unlike my previous 5.1 which had 4 tallboys).

Sound - It really sounds much better than my old DVD 5.1. Whether that is the kit or the difference of finally hearing tru HD from my Blurays I dont know.

Built in bluray (3D) - works really well and is roughly as fast as my PS3 and thankfully the lip-synching issue I had on 3D blurays on my old setup is gone as this plays everything flawlessly. File Formats - it plays everything and is fully compatible with USB sticks and my WD 1TB harddrive. MKV, DivxHD, all the HD sound codes are present except the emerging ones (but they are for high end kit anyway).

Smart TV - it looks sharper than the smart TV on my LG 3DTV and the WIFI is easier to setup (and bulit in). To be honest though I prefer getting my apps and net access through my laptop than on the rather clunky tv menus. Good addition though

Easy setup - all cables are colour coded, the instructions are easy to follow and it has a much better room setup tool as well which allows you to specift distance from each speaker to your seating.

The not so good

Response - Bluray is perfectly fine but the USB response is noticeably more sluggish than if I plug in the USB to my TV. However my TV does not have half the codecs this does so I can live with it.

Standby - Its a tiny thing but do I really need the word standby to be on in this mode. It's only faint but seems pointless, the faint red light on the top tells me this.

If all you want is mp3, phone and an average camera? its an OK phone. If however you want to surf the web or install apps? then forget it. The first thing you will see is Samsung Apps website saying this phone isnt supported. The apps you can get are limited and the actual web browsing on this phone is useless. Everytime you try and go to a website not specifically designed for mobiles (GPRS) it will say "not enough memory". This is because even with a 8Gb card in it the phone memory is too small. You will spend ages telling it to use the 8Gb card you just bought but it doesnt work. The internal memory of any phone you buy is crucial to how many games, contacts, apps and surfing it can do.

The phone looks nice, the touch screen is OK, but with this surfing issue and memory let down forget it. I went for an HTC instead..
